Event Details

Course Info:
Starting and finishing at the scenic and expansive beach of La Jolla Shores, run North under the Scripps pier, past rocky tidepools at the point and under the dramatic sculpted cliffs that line the coastline towards Black’s Beach. Run up the stairs and switchbacks of the Citizen’s Trail to the glider port and the back fence of the iconic Torrey Pines South golf course.

Time Trial Start:
Runners will be seeded by estimated finish time when they register. Please give us your honest assessment of how you think you will finish. Runners will line up in bib number order 1-500 and start every 3 seconds. This is a unique and efficient way for us to minimize congestion and impact along the route while giving all runners a guaranteed great race experience! All runners will be chip timed when they cross the start/finish line so there is no need to worry if you get passed or pass other runners.

Awards:
ALL FINISHERS WILL RECEIVE A MEDAL! Award Divisions are Top 3 overall in the elite category and top 3 in each of the following age groups: 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70+. The largest fundraiser for Boys to Men Mentoring will also be awarded a surfboard.

Packet Pick-up:
Please plan on picking up your packet (bib, t-shirt, and timing tag) on Friday January 20th from 1-7pm at Road Runner Sports in San Diego. If you plan on picking up on race day we recommend arriving 90 minutes prior the start (6:30am) to allow adequate time for parking, packet-pick-up, and warm-up.

There is also an incentive for you! It’s quite simple. If you raise $250 or more for the charity, you will receive a full refund on your entry fee. For more information on the foundation please visit their website at http://boystomen.org/

Official Charity

Together, the Torrey Pines Adventure Run and the 1 Wave Challenge has set a goal to raise $100,000 to benefit Boys to Men Mentoring (BTM). Boys to Men was started twenty years ago in 1996 in San Diego and expanded to include an in-school program in 2009. The organization is primarily a school based, group mentoring program that provides role models and guides to fatherless boys. They currently serve almost 700 fatherless and high-risk boys in San Diego alone each week.

A recent Newsweek article “The Trouble with Boys” states “one of the most reliable predictors of whether a boy will succeed or fail in high school rests on a single question: does he have a man in his life to look up to? Too often, the answer is no.”

By helping the BTM reach their goal, you are allowing them to expand their program to more local boys who desperately need mentors.
